Basking sharks are the second biggest fish in the world! The biggest is the Whale Shark. The biggest Basking Shark ever was around 40 feet (12 m)long. This is longer than a bus!

The Basking Shark is the second largest fish, after the Whale Shark.

The enormous jaws of the Basking Shark can filter up to two thousand gallons of water per hour.

The Basking Shark is a slow moving shark. They are also a filter feeder.

The Basking Shark gets his name from "basking" at the surface while feeding.

The Basking Shark usually grows to 20-26 feet (6-8 m) long, but some have been found that were 33 feet (10 m) long! They weigh around 4 tons or 8,000 pounds (3.6 metric tons or 3,600 kgs)!!

The Basking Shark gives birth to 1-2 pups who measure 5.5 feet (1.7 m) long!

The Basking Shark is not an aggressive shark. They are not harmful to humans either.

Basking Sharks are slow swimmers...they go about 3 miles (4.8 km) per hour!

Basking Sharks swim by moving their whole body from side to side.
